First Responders Teach McVille Students About Fire Safety

Posted Date: 10/05/26 (03:28 PM)

October 4th to 10th is Fire Prevention Week in the United States. In honor of the occasion, students at McConnellsville Elementary received a comprehensive crash course about the fire service on Monday, October 5th.

As part of a collaborative inter-agency effort to increase fire safety awareness, firefighters and EMS personnel representing four different departments were on hand, along with a wide range of apparatus. Personnel from the McConnellsville, Taberg, North Bay, and Vienna Fire Departments operated a rotation of interactive stations in the school’s front bus loop to show students what firefighting is like, along with some of the tools of the trade.

Students toured multiple trucks, learned about safety gear, practiced their “stop, drop, and roll” technique, practiced their accuracy with a fire hose, and even got to experience operating extraction tools in a controlled and supervised environment.

There was also a brief classroom session that included the opportunity to practice a window escape!

The District would like to thank all of the first responders who took time out of their busy schedules to educate students on this important topic.
